In industries such as material processing, packaging, and industrial manufacturing, roll materials require clear and stable identification throughout the production and logistics stages to facilitate product traceability, transport management, and information recognition. Unlike standard cartons or flat products, roll materials are prone to rolling or shifting during conveyance; furthermore, their designated labeling locations are typically situated at the ends and along the sides. This presents a heightened set of demands for automated labeling systems.
On one hand, labels must be applied with precision to multiple specific locations; on the other, positional stability must be guaranteed during continuous conveyance to prevent misaligned or inconsistent label application. Moreover, manual labeling is inefficient and fails to meet the consistency and throughput requirements inherent in large-scale production. Consequently, manufacturers are in urgent need of an automated print-and-apply labeling system—one capable of multi-position labeling, stable positioning, and efficient collaborative operation.
In this roll two-side labeling project, two H400A High Printer Applicators have been deployed as a collaborative dual-machine system. Integrated with a conveyor line and a clamping and positioning mechanism, the setup achieves fully automated, multi-position labeling operations.
The roll is first transported via the main conveyor line to a designated location. Subsequently, a transfer mechanism smoothly shifts the roll onto a secondary conveyor line, ensuring a seamless transition between process stages. Throughout this transfer process, the conveyor rhythm remains consistently stable, thereby guaranteeing that subsequent labeling actions are triggered at the precise moment.
Upon the roll’s arrival at the labeling station, a clamping mechanism securely locks it into position to prevent any rolling or displacement during the labeling process. This robust positioning establishes a reliable foundation for achieving precise, multi-position labeling.
Based on this configuration, the two H400A High Printer Applicators simultaneously execute “print-and-apply” labeling operations on both two sides of the roll. The system employs a real-time print-and-apply mode, wherein labels are dynamically generated and printed based on system data, and then immediately affixed to the roll. The entire system is centrally controlled by a PLC, enabling the synchronized execution of conveying, clamping, and labeling actions for rolls of varying dimensions, thereby ensuring the stable operation of the automated production line.
In the downstream processes, the system incorporates an integrated scanning and verification module designed to validate label information. Only after the material rolls have successfully passed this inspection are they automatically conveyed to a designated location for palatalizing operations. This closed-loop verification mechanism significantly enhances labeling accuracy, mitigates the risk of mislabeling, and ensures the reliability of downstream logistics and traceability processes.
By implementing this solution, the client successfully achieved the following:
- A comprehensive automated upgrade of the material roll labeling workflow
- A significant improvement in label placement consistency
- The elimination of various errors resulting from manual operations
- A substantial boost in production efficiency, enabling the completion of multi-position labeling tasks within a single production cycle
- Seamless integration with automated production lines, establishing the labeling stage as an integral and indispensable component of the overall manufacturing process
Against the backdrop of intelligent manufacturing, this H400A-based automated print-and-apply labeling solution offers an efficient, stable, and scalable approach to material roll identification, thereby providing robust support for modern digitized production and traceability systems.
